Friday 5 – with the Executive Officer

After interviewing each of the Council Members for the past 8 weeks, thought I had better give it a go myself.

1. Who are you and where are you from?

My name is Kate McDonald and I currently live in Armidale, NSW. I grew up in Wingham, NSW but have also lived in England, Dubbo and the Channel Country of Queensland. I have worked as a teacher and a governess before re-training in Agribusiness and I started working at ABRI (and with the Red Angus Society) in 2015.

2. Favourite Red Angus memories?

Sitting down with Life Members Warwick Tom, Judy Frankenberg and Ryves Hawker and talking about the history of the society.

Touring around WA & SA visiting members.

3. What are you looking forward to most in the next few months?

Watching the cricket on the TV over the summer, the warm weather, catching up with family and friends, spending time at the river and looking after my tomato plants so hopefully I’ll be able to harvest enough to make some nice relish.

4. Favourite cut of meat and/or meal?

Once lock down restrictions started to ease, a couple of friends and I have been having a ‘steak night’ each week. We’ve used a variety of cuts of beef and had some fantastic meals, but one of the most exciting was a tomahawk steak, slightly seasoned and grilled over hot coals on the Weber (only just fit on the grill!).

Check out the website – Australian Beef – if you’re ever stuck for beef recipe ideas!

5. What’s on your Christmas Wish List?

I hope that everyone has a safe and healthy festive season and is able to spend time with family and friends after what has been a different year! Crossing my fingers that I am to visit friends in NZ in 2021 after postponing a trip due to Covid.
